namely, these options may include:But if your specification requires a progressive output, you have no choice but quality will be still there!
- A loss of fluid (eg PAL: a progressive output in PAL has "only" 25 different images per second instead of 50 fps with interlacing).
- More visible ghosts during some standard conversions (visible in still picture, not during broadcasting ;))
- Some artifacts with the selective deinterlace mode (and always… visible in still picture, not during broadcasting ;))
- If possible, avoid to force a Progressive Output -during standard conversion- if your source is a Cartoon with black outlines (half-tones images are more cool ;))
Example with images (Etta James concert on American television), conversion from a 4:3 NTSC to 16:9 PAL.

this increase in quality is not only reflected during a standard conversion, but in any rescale of an interlaced stream (including without change of standard), as well as a reversal of field order (classic case of DVD/DVB-T/JVC Everio/… converted to DV).
